Second annual BBQ Boot Camp to be held Saturday, April 30

The North Dakota State University athletic department has teamed up with NDSU Animal Sciences Department and NDSU Extension Service faculty to hold the second annual BBQ Boot Camp from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. April 30, at the Fargodome following the annual Green and Gold spring football game.

BBQ Boot Camp will introduce participants to grilling methods, including smoking and cooking with gas and charcoal; describing the merits of various meat cuts; and explaining how cooking temperatures, humidity and the composition of the meat from different animal species can affect barbecuing success. Participants also will learn about nutrition, food safety and techniques, such as using rubs, marinades and seasonings.

In addition, faculty will share information on current topics in the pork, beef and lamb industries and report on related research, teaching and Extension activities at NDSU.

The session wraps up with a full meal that will give participants a chance to sample a large variety of barbecued meat

Registration is $30 for individuals and $50 for couples. The fee includes a binder with recipes and a meat thermometer.
