Seventh-place state finish for Packers golf
The West Fargo boys' golf team wrapped up its 2013 season on Wednesday with a seventh-place finish and a 36-hole score of 653 in the state tournament at Dakota Winds Golf Course in Hankinson, N.D.
"The kids did a great job at state," head coach Chuck Gad said. "Our finish was very good with really one player from last year and five new golfers. I'm extremely proud of this team and their improvement and progress throughout the year."
Packer junior Riley Johnson, last year's individual state champion, ended with a two-day score of 159, the eighth-best score of the tournament. He shot an 81 on the first day and a 78 on the second.
On the coattails of Johnson was senior Todd Dent, who ended his high school golf career with a two-day score of 165.
Eighth-grader Cole Johnson and junior Nathan Kapaun both earned total scores of 167. Kapaun's second-round score of 78 was his best of the season.
Senior Chase Pulczinski and sophomore Drew Conzemius rounded out the Packers with scores of 170 and 180, respectively.
The Packers' second day score of 318 was their best score of the season, and their best since the first meet of the year, when the team scored 321 on Monday, May 6, at King's Walk Country Club in Grand Forks.
Unlike this season, the Packers will go into next season having most of their core returning with state tournament experience.
