Six West Fargo wrestlers left it all on the mat during last week's USA Wrestling Junior and Cadet National Championships in Fargo.
Reed Cronin, Trevor Kringlie, Miles Scholl and Preston Lehmann all wrestled in the Cadet division, while Tom Kuehn and Scott Schiller wrestled Junior.
Schiller and Lehmann both were named All-Americans after placing in the Top 10 of different events.
Wrestling at 215 pounds, Schiller finished fourth place after falling to New York's Nick Gwiazdowski 3-2, 2-1. The 2010 West Fargo High School graduate also finished seventh in Greco-Roman with a 3-3, 1-0 decision over Josh Marchok of Illinois. Schiller is attending the University of Minnesota this fall, and will be wrestling alongside fellow West Fargo graduate Tyler Lehmann.
In the 171- pound class, Preston Lehmann took fourth place in freestyle after losing by a 6-0, 7-0 technical fall decision to Illinois' Jack Dechow. The incoming Packers sophomore also wrestled Greco and took wins through the first four rounds, but finally got bumped out after back-to-back losses in Rounds 5 and 6.
Though the other four West Fargo wrestlers didn't place, they still acquired valuable experience that should pay dividends this season.
With the absence of Schiller and Tyler Lehmann, Kuehn stands to be one of the veteran leaders as a senior this season. The two-time Packers Heart Award recipient pushed through four rounds of freestyle, going win-loss-win-loss, before getting knocked out. He also made it through two rounds of Greco-Roman.
Cronin, an incoming freshman, wrestled 84 pounds and made it through two freestyle rounds and three Greco-Roman rounds.
Kringlie went 4-2 in freestyle at 105 pounds and advanced all the way through Round 6 before getting knocked out for good. The incoming West Fargo sophomore dropped his first Greco-Roman match, but bounced back to win his next two. He then was knocked out in the fourth.
Another incoming Packers sophomore, Scholl lasted through Round 3 of Greco-Roman and Round 2 of Freestyle, both at 160 pounds.
