Signaling the end of an era
All good things must end.
Such is the case with the popular Veterans Memorial Poolt.
Today will be the last for the 57-year old facility as we all know it.
The good news is that it will be back in all-new form next year with a complete rebuild of the pool complex commencing shortly that will bring its amenities in line with other recreational facilities.
On a parting note, all young swimmers, age 12 and under, are welcome and encouraged to take part in the bon voyage celebration -- "One Last Splash" -- planned for today, Wednesday, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the pool's location, 131 6th Ave. E.
Fun and games will be the order of the afternoon and free sno-cones will be served.
Any of you with fond memories of the pool (who hasn't had a child, grandchild, or sibling enjoy recreational swimming or sunbathing at the pool, this person included?) may also want to swing by the pool and take in the action capture one last photograph of the "way it used to be" for posterity's sake.
And let it be said that "the way it was" all those years couldn't have been any more perfect for the individuals who frequented the pool.
What you saw was what you got and everybody respected and enjoyed that.
The pool will be missed for its authenticity and its ability to provide simple, wholesome fun, without any complicated bells and whistles.
This all thanks to a dedicated West Fargo Park District staff, a team of committed lifeguards, and the ongoing generosity of the West Fargo VFW who, first and foremost, wanted to make sure that everyone had the opportunity to swim without any monetary restrictions.
Hats off to everyone involved for an almost six decade run of providing great family entertainment for kids and other swimmers of all ages in a community that truly appreciated it.
And here's looking forward to next summer and all the updated fun and recreational possibilities the new "pool" will have to offer with one of the best parts being in the same old great familiar West Fargo neighborhood everyone has grown to know and cherish!
