'Significant' snowfall expected today and Thursday

GRAND FORKS, N.D. - A storm system moving into the region is expected to bring "significant" snowfall today and Thursday, with 5 to 7 inches possible in the Devils Lake area and 3 to 5 inches possible in the Fargo-Moorhead area, the National Weather Service says.

Three to 5 inches of snowfall is expected from the northern Red River Valley into the lakes region of Minnesota, the weather service says, noting there will be a sharp cutoff between heavier snow amounts and 1 to 3 inches just to the east.

A winter weather advisory is in effect from noon today until 6 a.m. Thursday.
