Softball wins 11th straight

The Packer softball team continued its spring tradition of winning big and winning often. They won five games last week — three of them by 10 or more runs — to extend their winning streak to 11 games.

The Packers started the week with a doubleheader sweep of Valley City on Tuesday, winning by scores of 15-3 and 7-1.

The team then followed that up with a 10 victory over Fargo Davies on Wednesday and wins over Thief River Falls (11-1) and Marshall City, Minn., (4-1) on Friday.

The Packer offense dominated the plate in the first game, accruing 22 hits as a team. They were led by freshman shortstop Morgan Geiszler, who went 3-for-4 and hit a grand slam.

Senior Michaela Liebl hit a three-run homer of their own, and also went 3-for-4 at the plate.

Senior pitcher Brittany Rheault struck out 12 batters en route to her 10th straight victory.

Sophomore Kaitlyn Kuntz took the mound in their second game against the Hi-Liners, striking out four while allowing just one run.

Geiszler hit another home run in the second, and junior outfielder Paige Andel went 2-for-3 offensively.

In their 10-run, five-inning win over Davies, Rheault returned to the pitcher’s mound, striking out nine and giving up three hits.

Geiszler went 3-for-3 and batted in four runs, and junior outfielder Hayley Sachow Johnson went 2-for-3 with three RBIs.

Rheault recorded another 10 strikeouts in Friday’s game against Thief River Falls. She also had two RBIs on offense, as did Liebl and junior Maddy Nelson.

Kuntz pitched in the team’s victory over Marshall County, giving up four hits and striking out 10 hitters.

The team ends its regular season this weekend, hosting Fargo North on Friday at 7 p.m., then heading to Roseau, Minn., on Saturday to face Warroad at 11 a.m. and Roseau at 1 p.m.
