The message on the front door at the Speedway Steakhouse and Event Center says it all - "great to see you again."
The welcome is from original owner Curt Burdick who has brought back the steakhouse, along with all its trademark menu items, to its familiar location at 680 West Main Avenue.
Burdick first opened the business in 1994, selling it in 2007 to new owners who continued to operate it as Speedway until the name and food concept was changed to Legend's Bar and Grill.
After working in the private sector for three years, Burdick decided he missed the restaurant business and when the opportunity presented itself to regain the Speedway Steakhouse he jumped at the chance, officially reopening to customers March 1.
Burdick wants everyone to know the same old Speedway customers enjoyed in the past is really back, but this time even better, thanks to the full-time hands-on attention he is now able to devote, including personally greeting each customer at the door.
For those of you craving the all-you-can eat barbecue ribs, the perfect blooming onion, the Monterey cheese and crab stuffed shrimp, the unique French baked potato, or the signature Speedway sauce, you'll be happy to know that all the 'old' basic menu is also available again, unchanged in quality, and offered at the same highly affordable pricing.
"We brought the entire old menu back," Burdick noted. "And we also kept the menu pricing the same for the most part."

Also featured are a variety of appetizers; salads; steak, chicken and seafood entrees, and combo meals; a variety of sandwiches, including the Speedways famous meatloaf, burgers, and chicken selections; as well as a kids menu.
Daily Noon specials are also part of the line-up, complete with main entrée, mashed potatoes and gravy, vegetable, and pop, all for very minimal pricing; along with regular nightly dining specials featuring: Steak and shrimp on Monday; T-bone Tuesday; smothered hamburger steak Wednesday; all-you-can-eat ribs Thursday; prime rib Friday; and ribeye steak on Saturday.
Burdick said since he's been back, the most popular menu item has been the ribs and coming in second, the sirloin steak. "Nothing beats a good sirloin," Burdick added, pointing out that he personally hand cuts all the steaks fresh daily.
On that note, Burdick said customer response to the Speedway's return has been "unbelievable. People are constantly writing on their tickets 'we are so glad to see you come back.' We are being very well-received; and it really is great being back."
Burdick credits his longtime staff with helping making the transition a smooth one. Thirteen of the employees have been on board six years or more, some of them going all the way back to 1996. His wife, Linda, who maintains a regular day job, also helps out at the business every opportunity she gets.
Community involvement will also continue to be a high priority at Speedway, just as it was the first go-round. "We were involved in several areas pertaining to youth and the schools and we intend to continue that," Burdick said. "It was a lot of fun and we enjoyed whatever we could do."
As for the Speedway Event Center, it's also business as usual, booking wedding receptions, civic club and wildlife events, banquets, etc.; and an active catering service also exists for whatever the function or event, no matter how big or how small.
Speedway Steakhouse is also home to a full-service lounge with gaming that benefits the West Fargo Hockey Association.
