Even with four Packers in its lineup, the North Dakota team could not pick up a win during the Badlands Bowl on June 18.

Tanner Fontaine, Alex Fontaine, Zach Neer and Jon Pistorius all earned roster spots for Team North Dakota, which fell to Montana 34-13. Since the border battle began in 1994, Montana leads the all-senior series with a record of 13-5. Last year, North Dakota edged Montana 41-38

Neer went 1-for-2 receiving, and Pistorius was named Defensive MVP for North Dakota.

North Dakota actually led 10-7 after the first quarter, but they wouldn't score again until a field goal in the final quarter. In the meantime, Montana ran away with it after putting up 13 points in the second quarter and 14 in the fourth.

Other area players on the North Dakota roster included: Adam Boe, Fargo South; Dylan Dunn, Fargo Shanley; Dan Jordan, Fargo Shanley; Brad Kepler, Fargo South; Brock Larson, Fargo South; Griffin Neal, Fargo South; Andrew Okland, Fargo South; Joe Swegarden, Fargo North; and Stefan Webber, Fargo Shanley.

Okland led North Dakota after catching seven passes for a 166 yards and a touchdown. Quarterback Carson Wentz of Bismarck Century, passed for 230 yards and was named Offensive MVP. Both are North Dakota State University recruits.

Neer will be playing for Northern State University in the fall.

Gustafson, East sweep during All Star volleyball games

West Fargo senior Jill Gustafson was the lone Packer to earn a spot on the East roster for this year's North Dakota Optimist's All Star series, held Monday in Fargo and Tuesday in Bismarck.

The East swept, taking the first match 23-25, 25-21, 25-22, 25-22 over the West, and then winning Tuesday's finale 25-21, 22-25, 25-23, 25-19.

In Monday's contest, Gustafson put up just three kills and a block, but she really broke out in Tuesday's match. The recent West Fargo graduate matched East teammate Raquel Wellentin with 13 kills. Gustafson also led the team with two service aces.

Gustafson will attend Jamestown College in the fall, and will compete in both volleyball and track and field.
