Members of the West Fargo Shakers made a recent $500 donation to the 231st Charlie Company Family Readiness Group with Raina Askin accepting the contribution on the group's behalf. Askin's husband is among National Guard soldiers presently in Kosovo on a peacekeeping mission. Shaker Jake Lauritsen's sister, Lindsey Lauritsen, is also in Kosovo. Lauritsen said it "touched my heart big-time to attend a number of events leading up to their deployment and see how spouses and kids are going to be on their own for the holidays." In an effort to make the holidays a little brighter, each year the Family Readiness Group hosts a Christmas party for the families doing their best to provide at least one gift to each child.  This year, the WF Shakers gave the group the $500 in order to purchase gifts for the children and also swimming passes at the Holiday Inn where the party is held. Pictured from left to right are: Jake Reese, Dwayne Vinesett, Raina Askin, Mike Migler, Jake Lauritsen, Paul Finn, and Joel Finn. The WF Shakers will be hosting their 3rd annual New Year's Eve party on Thursday, Dec. 31, from 7 p.m. to 2 a.m., at the Speedway Event Center, 680 W. Main Ave., West Fargo. Proceeds from this year's event will benefit Hope, Inc., a local nonprofit organization catering to the needs of children who are physically and mentally challenged. Complete details about the event will appear in next week's Pioneer.
