The North Dakota Junior High Wrangler Division Rodeo Association has established dates for its spring series of rodeos: West Fargo, April 24-25; Mandan, May 1-2; Stanton, May 22; and Hebron, May 29. Current sixth, seventh and eighth graders are welcome to compete.
Entry deadlines are two weeks in advance of each rodeo. The 2009-10 junior high rodeo season began last August with three rodeos in Bismarck. The top 10 contestants in each event following the ninth rodeo will qualify for a state championship round to be held that same day, May 29, in Hebron.
The top four finishers in each event qualify for national competition to be held June 27 to July 3 in Gallup, New Mexico.
Events for boys include breakaway roping, tie-down roping, chute dogging, goat tying and bull riding. Girls' events include breakaway roping, barrel racing, goat tying and pole bending. Ribbon roping requires one male and one female contestant. Any pair may compete in the team roping.
