State American Legion to meet

Over 400 members of the North Dakota American Legion, its Auxiliary, and the Sons of The American Legion will gather in Dickinson for the 93rd Annual Department Convention beginning Friday, June 24, with activities taking place at the Ramada Grand Dakota Lodge.

Representatives from the 219 American Legion Posts across the state will be on hand as the Legionnaires, Sons of The American Legion, and Auxiliary members conduct official business of the state's largest veterans' organization. Convention registration will begin at 10 a.m., on Friday at the Ramada Grand Dakota Lodge, which will serve as the Convention Headquarters Hotel.

A Joint Opening Session will begin at 7:30 p.m., Friday. Department Commander Larry Vetter and Auxiliary President Ginny Brazil will host a banquet and Distinguished Guests Reception Saturday evening with National Commander Jimmie Foster as the banquet speaker. The banquet will be followed by a dance with music by the American Legion State Band musicians.

Sunday morning activities will begin with the Joint Memorial Service. Immediately following the service the Convention will honor several youth champions from the past year.

The business sessions will conclude Sunday afternoon with the election of new officers for Department Commander and Department Commander-Elect as the highlight. Bob Krause of Gwinner is seeking the Department Commander position while Dave Rice of Harwood is seeking the Department Commander-Elect position.
