State VFW, Auxiliary elect local members
Jim Hapala and Janice Best were recently elected to lead their organizations for 2010 - 2011 at the 74th Annual VFW Convention in Wahpeton on June 5. Hapala was elected State Commander of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Department of North Dakota. He has been a life member of West Fargo VFW Post 7564 since 1974. He served in the Navy spending time overseas in Vietnam from February 1967 - February 1968. Hapala grew up in the Oakes, N.D., area and recently retired from Gremada Industries. He is the father of two grown children and grandfather of four children.
Janice Best was elected President of the ND VFW Ladies Auxiliary. Janice is originally from the Devils Lake area, growing up on a farm south of town. She joined the Ladies Auxiliary through Daryl Best in 1997. Best has been employed as an administrative assistant at West Fargo High School since 1997. She is the mother of three children; Joseph, Sara, and Michael and grandmother of two children; Liam and Olivia. She is a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church.
The Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States, with its Auxiliaries, includes 2.2 million members in approximately 8,100 Posts worldwide.
Its mission is to "honor the dead by helping the living" through veterans' service, community service, national security and a strong national defense.
