The Packers' tennis team hosted the annual West Fargo Invitational on Saturday, and came through with a 26-point, second-place finish.
Only Grand Forks Red River's 33 points was better.
The team also earned two individual first-place finishes, two individual second-place finishes and one doubles second place finish.
"Most teams are not as deep as we are," head coach Chad Anderson said. "We are very fortunate in that way. It really gives us an advantage."
The first-place finishes came from senior Mariah Stein and junior Jamie Freden, who earned the top spots in the fifth and sixth bracket, respectively.
"That was the first time those two have been in the finals, and they were both No. 1 seeds," Anderson said. " It's one thing to be seeded No. 1 and another to carry out on it."
The Packers got second-place awards from senior Brooke Christensen, junior Katie Baasch and the doubles team of sophomore Jenaya Wentz and Kseniya Belaychuk.
The EDC tennis tournament begins tomorrow, with the Packers taking on the Fargo South Bruins at Elephant Park in the first round.
"Our first-round match might our toughest," Anderson said. "When you work as hard as we have been, you have to think -- or at least hope -- that will turn into some wins."
