Student athletes recognized
Four area students have been named by the North Star Athletic Association as Academic Scholar Athletes for the 2014 spring academic season.
Brooke Gooters, a nursing student at the University of Jamestown and member of the women’s track and field team; Brook Rheault, an elementary education major at Jamestown and softball team member; Horace native Sydney Greenlund, a Jamestown biology major and softball team member; and Landon Uetz, of Horace, a Jamestown nursing major and baseball player.
A total of 194 student-athletes in men’s and women’s basketball, men’s and women’s wrestling, men’s and women’s track and field, softball, baseball and men’s and women’s golf teams, were recognized for their outstanding achievements in the classroom and on the playing field.
To be eligible for the Academic NSAA Scholar-Athlete, a student-athlete must achieve a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 on a 4.0 scale.
Jamestown University had the most scholar-athletes with 79 total and Valley City State had 49, followed by Dakota State with 39 recipients.
