Students team with Project Linus to help out in Haiti
South Elementary School fourth graders were involved in fleece blanket activity in conjunction with Project Linus recently that resulted in 105 unique blanket creations being sent to Haiti to help children affected by the earthquake.
A total of 94 students, four teachers, and several parent volunteers worked together to cut and tie the blankets, working the entire afternoon of Feb. 4, to complete the project. Jodi Berg, mother of fourth-grader Morgan Berg, initially called fourth grader teacher Sarah Wisthoff wondering if the students would be willing to make the blankets if she provided the fleece.
"We were so excited for the opportunity to do something tangible to help," Wisthoff said. Jodi arrived at the school on Wednesday, Feb. 3, with her entire mini van filled with a beautiful and fun variety of fleeces. She and a friend already had cut all the blankets to the correct size, so all that was required of the students and others helping, was to cut slits and tie.
