Swim team takes fourth in State
The Packers swim team wrapped up their 2012 season over the weekend on a positive note, as they took first in two events and fourth overall in the North Dakota State Meet.
The highlight of the event for the Packers 200 freestyle relay team - consisting of Brianna Faul, Julissa Johnson, Danica Dutt and Hallie Peterson - taking first place with a time of 1:39.9.
"They were just awesome," head coach Marsha Dahl said. "They set a new team record, and were just shy of the state record."
Dutt also took first place - for the second time - in the 100 butterfly with a time of 57.09. She also finished third in the 50 freestyle with a time of 24.62.
Hallie Peterson also had a strong weekend. Aside from being a part of the record-setting relay team, she also placed second in both the 100 freestyle (53.48) and the 200 freestyle (1:55.11, breaking her own team record).
Other swimmers who made it through the preliminaries and advanced to the second day of competition include Emily Bourassa, Mykin Gunning, Julissa Johnson, Brianna Faul, Taylor Laufenberg and Marisol Rios.
"The girls really did well," Dahl said. "We really came home happy."
Looking back at the season as a whole, Dahl was pleased with the collaboration of her inexperienced team.
"The girls really gelled together toward the end," Dahl said. "They took advantage of all the good things at this pool. They were really excited for one another, cheering each other on. I'm one happy coach."
