Swimmers take EDC crown
The Packers swim team will head into this weekend’s state tournament with all of the momentum, as they won the Eastern Dakota Conference Championship on Saturday with a score of 529, which was 155 points ahead of second-place Fargo North.
“We had a handful of girls in each event competing for their position on the State team,” head coach Sally Sautner said. They did an excellent job of giving it everything they had.”
Sophomore Hallie Peterson took first in the 100 freestyle with a time of 54.67, and was also a part of three first-place relay teams: the 200 medley, the 200 freestyle and the 400 freestyle. She also finished second in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:12.17.
Senior Danica Dutt was a part of 200 medley and 400 freestyle teams, and also claimed the top spot in 100 butterfly with a time of 58.13. She also finished second in the 200 individual medley, finishing in 2:16.38.
The 400 freestyle team -- which also featured sophomore Mykin Gunning and junior Brianna Faul -- finished with a time of 3:37.82, a new conference record. They beat the second-place Fargo North relay team by less than a second.
The Packers now have a schance to cap off one of their best seasons in team history with a state title.
“I can't wait to see what they are going to do rested,” Sautner said. “We are all anxious to get onto the pool deck”
The tournament will take place on Friday and Saturday and the Unversity of North Dakota in Grand Forks.
