Swimmers take second at Davies Invitational
The West Fargo boys swimming and diving team finished Saturday’s Davies Invitational in second place with 547 points, just five points behind the first-place Fargo North.
“I thought we did awesome,” head coach Marsha Dahl said. “We are coming along nicely. A lot of our kids had personal best times. They swam out of their minds.”
While the Packers did not finish first in any event, they did end the day with three second-place finishes and six third-place finishes.
Leading the team was junior Carson Keller, who finished second twice. He swam the 200 individual medley with a finals time of 2:07.68, and was part of the 400 freestyle relay team -- along with Jarod Smith, Brandon Olson and Stephen Hulbert -- that finished with a time of 3:32.83.Keller also finished third in the 100 butterfly with a time of 57.78.Olson had the team’s other second-place finish, swimming the 500 freestyle in 5:12.53.Sophomore Cole Weisz finished third in two events: first as a part of the 200 medley relay team with a time of 1:51.97, then on his own in the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:12.88.With five weeks left in the season, Dahl believes her team is swimming its best as of late, but believes Fargo North will be the team to beat this season.“(North’s head coach) says that we have better depth,” Dahl said. “That may be true, but North has some horses that can win events. It is fun to have that top team, but I think it’s more fun to climb the ladder to success. I have been very happy.”The Packers head to Mandan for a dual on Friday evening, then will partake in an invitational tournament at Bismarck Century on Saturday morning.
