Teacher Appreciation Week: Horace PTO thanks staff for their dedicated efforts
Horace Elementary PTO members honored their school's teachers and staff during Teacher Appreciation Week last week, with a new theme for each day of the week.
Monday was Flower Day, with breakfast served to staff. Tuesday was Relaxation Day with massages, comfort soup for lunch, and meat and cheese trays provided by the PTO. Wednesday was Recipe Day with treats for the teacher, accompanied by the recipe. Thursday was Note Day, and Friday was Puzzle Day, as parents thanked Horace staff members for being an important piece of their children's lives. Lunch on Friday was provided by Two Sisters Gourmet made by PTO members.
The highlight of the week came on Thursday, when PTO President Sarah Bolton emceed a special game show fashioned after the popular TV show, Deal, or No Deal.
In preparation for the game, PTO members placed 34 prizes inside identical paper bags, one for each of the 34 staff members at Horace Elementary School. Each bag contained mystery prizes, including computer software, or gift certificates to area retail stores or restaurants. To add to the adventure, one bag contained a plastic frog or toad. The toad prize had a gift certificate hidden in the bottom of the bag.
As fifth grade students asked trivia questions about the Horace school, teachers were asked to run to a bell. The first teacher to push the buzzer and give the correct answer got the chance to pick one of the prizes and open it in front of the assembly.
As each staff member came forward to claim their prize, students got into the spirit, chanting, "Pick the toad! Pick the toad!"
Bolton thanked the staff on behalf of the PTO. "One week isn't long enough to show our appreciation. We feel very blessed to have all of you in our childrens lives," Bolton said.
