Traffic back to normal following derailment
West Fargo Police responded to a derailment Friday, Dec. 17, at approximately 1 p.m. involving Burlington Northern Santa Fe (BNSF) train cars loaded with coal at the junction of the main east-west line and the spur that takes trains around north Fargo. Six cars derailed and tipped on their side, and one remained upright on the track.
No injuries were reported and there were no hazardous chemicals involved.
As result of the derailment, there were road closures for several hours on Seventh Avenue and Twelfth Avenue North from Ninth Street East to Center Street while BNSF officials investigated the incident, with the investigation ongoing.
The first track opened late Friday afternoon and the second track early Saturday morning.
