Scouts and parents of Boy Scout Troop 279 spent the day ringing the bells for the Salvation Army at the West Fargo Sunmart on Nov. 26, rotating through hourlong shifts to man the donation kettle from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Fire Chief Roy Schatschneider, local campaign coordinator, indicated finding volunteers on the day following Thanksgiving is sometimes hard to do. Having the scouts take the whole day allows him to concentrate on his other locations. The scouts have manned the kettle on Black Friday for the past four years.
Jake Blotsky and his mother Twylah covered the first shift Friday. "Having a chance to ring the bell is fun," Jake said. "We are helping to raise money for the Salvation Army and their mission. It also provides a chance to let others know that scouting is about doing something for your community."
Troop 279 is chartered by Lutheran Church of the Cross and Holy Cross Catholic Church of West Fargo.
