Two West Fargo Cal Ripken teams earn state titles
Two of West Fargo’s Cal Ripken Baseball teams are now state champions after winning their respective tournaments in the 10-year-old and 11-year-old divisions.
The West Fargo 10-year-old Rattlers baseball team won the state Cal Ripken title in Mandan last week, defending its 9-year-old state championship title.
The 10-year-old Rattlers won the first game against Bismarck National 10-0 in four innings.
The West Fargo Rattlers 11-year-old travel baseball team won the North Dakota State Cal Ripken Baseball Tournament in Wahpeton July 11 through 15.
The team opened the tournament against Minot and won by a score of 11-3.

Cooper Borchardt pitched a no-hitter with nine strikeouts. Evan Berg was 2-for-2 and Matthew Heupel 1-for-2 with 2 RBIs.
The team won game two 6-1 against Williston. Brenan Haman threw a three-hitter with 11 strikeouts. Max Burkhard went 1-for-2 with 2 RBIs.
In semifinal play, West Fargo defeated Fargo 13-3 in five innings.
Caden Mattson had a complete game win with nine strikeouts and went 1-for-3 with 2 RBIs at the plate.
Caden Zepeda and Heupel each added two hits and Borchardt and Jordan Burchill each had 2 RBIs.
West Fargo won the championship 12-0 in four innings over the Bismarck Americans.
Haman threw a two-hitter with five strikeouts.
Jaden Grefsrud went 2-for-2 with 3 RBIs. Heupel added two hits and Tate Gustafson and Burkhart each had 2 RBIs.
The team will now defend its 9-year-old Midwest Plains Regional Championship in Chadron, Neb.
The winner will advance to the Cal Ripken World Series in Winchester, Va.

The second-round game of the 11-year-old age group was played against the Fargo and West Fargo won 10-3.
In West Fargo’s third game against the Bismarck Americans, it again came out on top with a score of 10-0.
In the championship game, the Rattlers faced a rematch against the Fargo Americans.
The two teams traded leads for the first three innings with West Fargo going up for good in the bottom of the third. The Fargo Americans had runners on first base and second base with no outs in top of the fifth inning, but West Fargo turned a triple play to end the rally.
West Fargo won the championship game by a score of 14-7.
The West Fargo Rattlers, who are sponsored by First international Bank and Trust, have a combined record of 39-8-2 this year.
The team will now go on to the Cal Ripken Midwest Plains Regional Tournament in Minot, N.D., July 31 through Aug. 5.
There, the team will face the top teams from Minnesota, Colorado, Missouri and Kansas.
