The West Fargo boys hockey team picked up a pair of wins during a three-day tournament last week in Fergus Falls, Minn.

The Packers (2-5-0 EDC, 5-7-0) kicked things off Tuesday with a 4-1 victory over Park Rapids (Minn.) Area. West Fargo points leader Blake Nelson scored his team's first goal at the end of the first period on a power play. The junior finished with two goals.

West Fargo's lone loss of the tournament came Wednesday against Eastern Dakota Conference leading Fargo North (5-1-0, 10-1-0).

The Spartans scored twice in the second period before junior Alec Rowland answered for West Fargo to start the third period. It would be the Packers only score, however, as North skated away with a 5-1 victory.

Stinging from the lopsided loss, the Packers rebounded in their final game against tournament host Fergus Falls. Sophomore Tyler Berginski put the Packer son the board in the first period, and finished with two goals on the night. Rowland and Nelson scored West Fargo's other goals, helping the team to a 4-2 win.

Packers goalie Bailey Vareberg stopped 76 shots at the tournament, 31 shots of which came during the final game against Fergus.

West Fargo's next game is Saturday, when it hosts Devils Lake (0-4-0, 3-6-0). The game originally was scheduled for 2:30 p.m., but has been bumped to 7:30 p.m.
