Vaux will continue to spend Wednesdays each week at West Fargo City Hall until a replacement is hired.

In his new position with the GFMEDC, Vaux will focus on primary-sector business retention and expansion and will be responsible for all new business attraction and location services for companies considering relocating to the Fargo-Moorhead area. He will also coordinate all activities related to strengthening the technology sectors and be the primary liaison between business and higher education partners.

Vaux was hired by West Fargo in March of 2012 filling a newly-expanded and restructured position that was that was created after the passing former city business development director Dorinda Anderson.

Prior to that he had been associated with the South Dakota Governor’s Office of Economic Development office for seven years. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree in business management from Northern State University, Aberdeen, S.D.; and graduated from a number of development and leadership courses.

Vaux said that while it was a difficult decision to leave West Fargo, his new position with the GFMEDC “is a tremendous opportunity, one of those that doesn’t come around too often in a person’s career. “

He said he is proud of what he was able to accomplish in his short tenure with the city and looks forward to a longstanding association. “I will continue to work with West Fargo, only in a different capacity. We have accomplished a tremendous amount in the past year; new opportunities and business, accountability, communication and reporting, re-engaging the economic development committee and, maybe most importantly, establishing very strong relationships with all of the regional and state partners.”

Active in a number of West Fargo organizations, Vaux said he will also continue to be involved in community endeavors. “My new position will enable me to become more active and in a larger capacity,” he stated.

He and his wife, Dawn, make their home in West Fargo, where she serves as Housing Manager at Sheyenne Crossings in West Fargo. They are the parents of a son and two daughters, all young adults.

City staff say they are sorry to see Vaux leave but wish him only the best.

“Mark did an excellent job for the city and will continue to do so as an executive with the Greater Fargo-Moorhead Economic Development Corporation,” Mayor Rich Mattern stated. “Mark knows West Fargo well and will be able to help us continue building our businesses. In his short time as the West Fargo economic development director, he was able to make numerous contacts with retail and manufacturing businesses, and also worked tirelessly to assist West Fargo businesses expand their facilities. During his time, the city implemented some programs to help Sheyenne Street and Main Avenue business expand or remodel. This  was something that was added to his workload, but he did a marvelous job of doing it without complaint. If you drive along those streets, you will see some of the fruits of his labor. He also had the task of working with Main Avenue businesses during phase two of reconstruction. Again, he did a great job. Mark will be missed, but he also has given the city the opportunity to establish even greater ties with the GFMEDC and help us bring in more businesses or expand current businesses.”
