VFW elects new state officers

The Department of North Dakota in convention at Grand Forks, recently elected a new slate of officers for the years of 2011-2012. They include: Robert A. Bird, Bismarck, Department Commander; Steven Volk, Bismarck, Senior Vice Commander; Emery C. Fisher, Devils Lake, Junior Vice Commander; Dale Ronning, West Fargo, Quartermaster; Neil Prochnow, Hankinson, Judge Advocate; LeRoy Miller, Anamoose, Surgeon; and Darin Buri, Grand Forks, as Chaplain.

Commander Bird also made appointments, including Dale Ronning, West Fargo, Adjutant; Wally Bolte, Bismarck, Chief of Staff; and Steve Frojen, Oakes, as Inspector.

Bird is a Past Commander of VFW Post 1326 of Bismarck. He also served as Post Adjutant for Post 1326. He moved to Bismarck in 2000 from Woodbury, Minn., where he served three years as commander for Post 9024, and and has lived in Bismarck since. He retired from USDA - NRCS located in St. Paul, Minn. Bird and his wife, Jeannie, have two adult children, three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He served in Vietnam during the Vietnam conflict in 1969 to 1970.
