The West Fargo VFW will be hosting its 11th annual R.O.S.S. (Remembering Our Serving Soldiers) event on Saturday, March 8, beginning at 11 a.m.
The event will feature two meals, games, silent auctions and live music in the evening by the Shakers.
The event began in 2003, simply as a pancake feed.
“It has come a long way since that first year,” VFW trustee Charlie Weible said. “That year, we may have made $600. This year we are looking at $18,000 to $20,000.”
All proceeds from the event go to military family support groups, representing nine different units.
R.O.S.S. begins with a silent auction — which will remain on the upper level of the VFW and go until 6 p.m. — along with a variety of games with prizes and a barbecue lunch for $3. Bingo will be played throughout the day, beginning at 2 p.m.
A memorial program will take place at 4 p.m. feature the singing of a servicemen quartet and an awards presentation. Following the program, a steak and potato dinner will be held ($12 for adults, $6 for children ages 14 and under) along with raffles beginning at 5:30 p.m.
According to Weible, the staff and roughly 60 volunteers involved are expecting plenty of attendees throughout the day.
“We are making 500 steaks,” Weible said. “We better have some company.”
Tickets can be purchased by contacting Heather Struxness by phone at 701.388.2899 or by email at email@example.com. Monetary donations can be made through struxness as well. Tickets will also be available at the door.
All checks should be made out to “WF VFW R.O.S.S. Event.”
Caps and beanies with the “ROSS” logo adorned on them have also been ordered, and cost $20 and $15, respectively.
