Volleyball season ends against South
The Packers did their best to keep things interesting, but ultimately, their season came to an end when they fell to Fargo South 3-1 (25-15, 25-12, 17-25, 25-23) in a state qualifying game on Saturday.
Leading up to Saturday, the Pack faced the Fargo Davies Eagles on Tuesday in their first EDC tournament game, but ended up losing 3-0 (25-17, 25-23, 25-20)
“I think we held back a little bit,” head coach Paula Pierson said. “We came in a little tight, and it really showed on some of our kids.We are not going to miss the number of serves we did and win games. We have to play with confidence.”
In that game, senior Courtney Suppa led the Pack with 17 kills, and Shelby Gustafson followed that with nine kills of her own.Junior setter Jadyn Cookman had 33 assists, and senior Kaitlin Langerud tallied 16 digs.The team bounced back on Friday with a 3-2 (25-17, 25-20, 22-25, 23-25, 15-13) victory over Fargo North to stave off elimination.Suppa again led the offense, this time with 20 kills. Gustafson and Langerud followed that with 12 and 11 kills, respectively.Cookman tallied 43 assists in the five-set game.The season skidded to a halt the next morning, however, as the team fell to the Bruins in the state qualifier.Suppa notched 14 kills on Saturday, followed by six kills from Gustafson and five kills from both Langerud and junior Izzy Waite.The Packers finished the season with an overall record of 18-17, and a record of 9-9 in the Eastern Dakota Conference.Suppa and Gustafson were named to the All-Conference team, with Suppa also being one of four nominees for the EDC Outstanding Senior Athlete of the Year Award. The award went to Davies setter Katelyn Olson.
