Volleyball team takes fourth in N.D. State Tournament

The fall sports season for the Packers has officially come to an end over the weekend, as the volleyball team finished the North Dakota State Volleyball Tournament in fourth place.

The tournament began for the Packers on Thursday against the Jamestown Blue Jays, who they beat in three games (25-21, 25-19, 25-22).

In Thursday's game, the Packers were led by Amanda Levin, who had 15 kills, and Christina Bruenjes, who had 12. Andrea Klug led the team with 37 assists and the team was led in digs by Courtney Suppa and Shelby Gustafson, who had 14 and 10 respectively.

The team moved on to face the eventual state runner-up Grand Forks-Red River Roughriders on Friday but lost three games to two (19-25, 25-20, 26-24, 22-25, 10-15).

Suppa was the kill leader for the Packers with 17 - along with two blocks and two aces. Bruenjes and Levin were not far behind with 13 and 11 respectively. Bruenjes also tallied eight blocks.

Klug managed an impressive 50 assists and one ace.

With the loss, the Packers moved on to face the Dickinson Midgets in Saturday's third-place game, but lost in four games (25-13, 22-25, 27-29, 17-25).

Bruenjes topped all Packers on Saturday with 20 kills and a block. Suppa and Levin were next in line with 11 kills each.

Klug managed 46 assists, and libero Jolene Woodbury led the team with 14 digs.

With their performances over the weekend, Bruenjes and Levin were named to the All-Tournament second team.

The State Championship went to the Bismarck Century Patriots, who topped Grand Forks-Red River 3-1 (18-25, 25-20, 25-15, 25-18) in the championship game on Saturday evening.
