Walk This Way in Shadow Wood Park set

Fargo Cass Public Health’s 11th annual Walk This Way season is well under way, and on Tuesday they will partner with West Fargo Parks to hold a walk at Shadow Wood Park.

“It’s a great way to get your exercise in,” event organizer Kim Lipetzky said. “It helps in stress relief and it helps you sleep better at night. It also exposes people to the places they can walk in the community.”

Walk This Way sets up group walks in Fargo, West Fargo, Moorhead, Dilworth and Casselton that are open to the public throughout the spring – when people are ready to go outside and be active after the long winter – as a way of promoting good health and local walking places.

The partnership between Fargo Cass Public Health and the parks department has been in place for several years, with walks previously held in Elmwood and Rendezvous Park. This year, the community is invited to venture through the city’s newest park, which opened last year.

“It is a really nice place for a family get-together,” West Fargo Parks recreation specialist Kim Wangler said. “There are a lot of walking paths there, and this is a great way to see all of them.”

Community members of all walking abilities are encouraged to take part. Though a 2-mile track is laid out, people are asked to walk only as far as they like.

Community members take advantage of the Walk This Way program not only for the exercise but also to socialize with like-minded walkers.

“People just like to walk with other people,” Lipetzky said. “Coming to this gives people a group to be a part of. I think they really enjoy the social part of it, the chance to meet new people.”

Walkers who participate in at least five Walk This Way events will have their names put in a drawing for prizes.

Registration is available online at, or in person at the event. In the event of bad weather, an indoor walking location will be posted on the website. The walk will begin at 7 p.m. at the Shadow Wood entrance, 3482 Loberg Drive.
