Water and sewer, sanitation charges going up in January
West Fargo residents and businesses will be seeing an increase in their water and garbage rates effective Jan. 1, 2011.
West Fargo City Commissioners unanimously approved first reading of Ordinance 874 as well as changes outlining the increases that were approved as part of the final 2011 City Budget
Residents and businesses now pay a minimum service charge of $7 for the use of the first 2,000 gallons of water, so the increase affects the water usage after that amount.
Included in the numbers are: a 50-cent increase per thousand gallons of water for usage over 2,000 gallons for both residential and commercial users; and a $1 increase for sanitation services, taking the amount billed for residential from $10 to $11 per month. Commercial users will not see an increase since their billings are calculated differently.
Final passage of the ordinance change is expected at the Nov. 15 meeting of the board.
In other action, the commission:
-approved a three year remodeling exemption for Mirsad and Senada Kocic based on improvements made to his home at 202 Francis St. that included new windows, doors, siding, air conditioning, flooring and a new front entrance with deck, increasing the value of the residence initially constructed in 1949 from $82,000 when purchased in 2008 to $110,000 following the improvements. This will result in a $315 tax savings each year of the exemption that will run from 2010 to 2012;
-approved second and final reading of Ordinance No. 870 relating to creation of a new Visitors Committee, adjusting wording to allow for four members of the community after deleting the two Chamber members and leaving the one member from the City Commission;
-following a public hearing continued first reading of rezoning part of Lot 2, Block 3 of Eagle Run 8th Addition from Planned Unit Development to Limited Multiple Dwellings to the next meeting on Nov. 15. Scott Bakko made the request for the 185,000 square foot parcel located west of Cass County Highway 17 and south of 34th Avenue West to allow for multiple unit townhomes. The property had been platted and zoned for office space in 2002. Since he made the request, he asked for additional time to review the matter;
-okayed second reading on the rezoning, land use amendment and final plat for the Links at Westport First Addition for rezoning from A: Agricultural to R-1A: Single Family Dwellings and the land use amendment from Medium Density Residential and General Commercial to Low Density Residential;
-voted to reapprove a replat of Shadow Wood 4th Addition that had been approved by the commission on June 21, 2010. Since that time, the plat was modified to remove Lot 21.
-agreed to rename the Preserve 1st Addition to Southpond at the Preserve 1st Addition. The next regularly scheduled meeting of the West Fargo City Commission will take place at 5:30 p.m., Monday, Nov. 15, in the Commission Chambers at West Fargo City Hall. All meetings are open to the public.
