West Fargo City Commissioners have narrowed the candidate pool for the seat left open by the retirement of Lou Bennett to three individuals - Duane Breitling, retired attorney at Ohnstad Twichell Law Firm; Mark Wentz, president and general manager of Red River Electric Inc., Moorhead, and Brad Olson, agricultural program specialist for USDA Farm Service Agency, N.D. state office.
The selection will be made by a vote of the commission after an individual interview process takes place, hopefully beginning yet this week, according to Mayor Rich Mattern.
"The good news is we had seven good people," Mattern stated, "but we felt we had to narrow it down, so we did, and these are the individuals we will interview."
As with all other commission action, the interview process will be open to the public at times to be announced in the conference room at West Fargo City Hall, 800 4th Ave. E.
There is no ordinance timetable to have the selection completed but all of the commissioners are in agreement they would like to somebody in place as soon as possible.
Mattern said he is hoping a vote can take place on the final choice at the next commission meeting on Oct. 1.
"I think we need to get that fifth person back up there so that we are at full strength again. It's not the best situation to have just four. I always wonder if there will be a tie vote. We need to get this done and hopefully that will be sooner rather than later."
