West Fargo City crews lend helping hand to Northwood residents
Members of the West Fargo Street and Water Departments extended helping hands last week in Northwood as clean-up efforts continued in the community ravaged by a deadly tornado.
City employees Bob Olson, George Grossman and Tory Nissen spent Tuesday and Wednesday, Aug. 28 and 29, helping out; while Art Peterson and John Freeman, Terry Bommersbach and Nissen lent assistance on Thursday, Aug. 30.
The crews took two trucks, a loader, a wood chipper and a generator with them to help them in the process.
Olson, who serves as City street department foreman, said the equipment and manpower were used basically to haul debris that included downed trees and branches, many of which were also chipped. He said by Thursday evening that task had been pretty much accomplished.
The generator is still being used in Northwood to help supply power and will remain there as long as it is needed.
"There was such a good turnout from other cities," Olson said about the effort. "We've been blessed with the diversion as far as saving us from disasters here in West Fargo. It was a good deal for us to go and give somebody else a helping hand."
