Police received a report at about 3:25 a.m. of a man at a Fargo hospital with an apparent stab wound.

An investigation found that the victim had been sleeping in his apartment in the 600 block of Second Avenue East when he thought he heard someone breaking into a vehicle in the back alley, Sgt. Jerry Boyer said.

The victim went outside and confronted three individuals, fighting with at least two of them, Boyer said. One of the suspects stabbed the victim with an unknown weapon before the three fled the scene, he said.

The victim drove himself to a Fargo hospital, where he was treated for a non-life-threatening stab wound to his upper left shoulder and released.

Police have no suspects or descriptions to release at this time, Boyer said.

He reminded the public that they shouldn't confront suspects but rather call 911 and give descriptions of the suspects to allow police to apprehend them.

The reported location of the stabbing is about 2½ blocks northwest of West Fargo Police headquarters.
