Officers were called to the crash at 12:22 a.m. in the 600 block of Seventh Avenue West.

A witness told police that the driver of the two-door car fled the scene in another vehicle after the crash, Assistant Police Chief Mike Reitan said.

Police didn't know yet if the driver flagged down the vehicle or if it had been following him, Reitan said.

Cass County Electric Cooperative repaired the power pole, which affected only a few homes, Reitan said. One of the damaged utility boxes contained connections for cable and telephone lines, but it was unknown how many customers were affected, he said.

The car was impounded, and police were checking into the identity of its registered owner, Reitan said.
