The most exciting aspect of the conference is the competitive events program. Students have the opportunity to test the business skills they’ve learned in the classroom in a variety of individual, team, and chapter events. Students can enter events such as accounting, computer applications, public speaking, job interview, website development, or networking concepts. The culmination of the competitive events program is the awards ceremony where winners are recognized for their accomplishments. In addition to the competitive events program, students had the opportunity to attend workshops, business tours, and college tours. A new team of state officers were also elected at the conference.

At the opening session of the Future Business Leaders of America Conference Jazzmyn Sikich was recognized as Chapter President and Eric Haugen received the Local Chapter Who’s Who Award for Outstanding Leadership Achievement. Raveena Goyal and Brett Lessard also attended the conference.

West Fargo chapter winners included: Eric Haugen 6th place Impromptu Speaking and 8th place in Economics; Jazzmyn Sikich 4th place Personal Finance; Brett Lessard 1st place Economics and 1st place in Business Law. Brett has qualified for the FBLA National Leadership Conference in Anaheim, Calif. this summer.

Earlier this year FBLA members competed in Business and Information Technology Day at Valley City State University where Jazzmyn Sikich placed 2nd in Spreadsheets. Eric Haugen placed 1st in Spreadsheets and Brett Lessard placed 1st in Business Law.

FBLA is a professional organization for students interested in pursuing business careers. This year’s theme of “Igniting Innovation,” reflects the goals of FBLA members, some of the best and brightest of today’s young people.
