West Fargo VFW recognizes winners, volunteers

Voice of Democracy (VOD), Patriot's Pen, and Patriotic Art contest winners were recognized during the annual Awards and Volunteer Banquet held April 25 at the Arthur W. Jones VFW Post 7564 in West Fargo. Post Commander Mike Wiersma and Ladies Auxiliary President Janet Ronning led the event. MayorRich Mattern praised the volunteers and their service to the community. Awards were also presented to the Outstanding Law Enforcement, Fire Department and EMT personnel.

The VFW Ladies Auxiliary Patriot Art Contest winners were Anessa Tabassum (first place); Taylor Grove (second place); Nolan Clark (third place) and Jamie Hanson (fourth place). Each received a cash award for their respective wins in the contest.

VOD award winners were Mayim Stith (first place); Logan Volk (second Place); and Lance Wilson (third place). Mayim went on to win first place in the North Dakota VOD contest. She visited Washington D.C. with the other 50 state winners earlier this year and will go to Valley Forge this summer with the group.

Patriots Pen Award winners were Andrew Haarsager (first place), Joram Stith (second place), and Akriti Saxena (third place).

Dave Pragulske, retired as a volunteer with West Fargo Volunteer Fire Department, was chosen as Fireman of the Year; Detective Sgt. Greg Warren of the West Fargo Police Department was named the Police Officer of the Year; and Scott Helmer of FM Ambulance won the EMT of the Year award.
