Western State Bank in West Fargo recently awarded two local students savings scholarships of $250 as part of a scholastic recognition program, Western Pays for A's. The program is designed to reward high school students for their hard work in school.
Katy Tellinghuisen, Horace, and Austin Althoff, West Fargo, were selected as the winners of the first semester Western Pays for A's scholarships.
"Western is proud to award scholarships to these hard-working students for their achievements," said Brad Jacobson, Western State Bank President. "The scholarships are our way of recognizing students for their efforts, as well as support them as they prepare for future education expenses."
Students in grades 9-12 are encouraged to bring their report cards into Western State Bank following each quarter. Students will receive a packet of coupons or gift certificates from local businesses for having at least one "A" on their report card. The businesses participating in the program include Happy Joe's (13th Ave in Fargo), Sweet Dreams Confections (13th Ave in Fargo), Sandy's Donuts (Main Avenue in West Fargo), and Stars and Strikes Bowling (Sheyenne Street in West Fargo).
Each semester, Western State Bank will award two $250 savings account scholarships selected from students that have brought in their report cards. Students will receive an entry for each "A" they have earned. Four students each year will have the opportunity to begin saving toward a college education from their dedication in high school.
Western State Bank's current primary bank locations are located in the North Dakota communities of West Fargo, Fargo, Devils Lake, and Towner and in Chandler, Arizona.
