Start Up is the Minnesota Housing first-time homebuyer loan, which offers fixed interest rates and three down-payment and closing-cost loan options to eligible borrowers. Step Up provides purchase and refinance loans for non-first-time homebuyers.

For more than 40 years, Minnesota Housing has provided access to safe, decent and affordable housing and built stronger communities across the state. In partnership with lenders such as Western State Bank, Minnesota Housing offers homebuyer loans, down payment and closing cost assistance, Mortgage Credit Certificates, and home improvement loans, as well as affordable rental housing throughout the state.

“We are pleased to welcome Western State Bank into the Minnesota Housing family of preferred lenders,” said Christina Akinola, Business Development Representative at Minnesota Housing. “The Moorhead community will benefit greatly from this partnership. Western State Bank, with the support of Minnesota Housing’s low-interest mortgage products, will help families realize their dream of homeownership.”

Western State Bank is a 112-year-old, employee-owned community bank with assets totaling over $695 million. The bank offers superior full-banking services, investments, and real estate financing to personal and business customers, as well as nationwide equipment financing services. Western State Bank’s bank locations are in the North Dakota communities of Fargo, West Fargo, Devils Lake and Towner, and in the Arizona communities of Casa Grande, Chandler and Scottsdale.

“Western State Bank is proud to be a part of the Start Up and Step Up programs through Minnesota Housing. At Western our team specializes in finding the best financing options for our clients. This is another great opportunity to help so more people turn homeownership dreams into a reality,” said Tom Boyer, senior vice president/mortgage department manager.
