On Aug. 13, West Fargo Veterans Memorial Arena was the host site for tryouts for the Team North Dakota Starz U14 and U16 National hockey team. Hockey players from around the state participated in a tryout session to earn a spot on the team.

These teams will represent North Dakota Amateur Hockey at the USA Hockey National Tier 2 tournament. The 14U team will compete in Amherst, N.Y., on March 30-April 3, while the 16U tournament will be held the same dates in Reston, Va.

Each roster can include up to 20 players. Players from West Fargo on the 14U team include Tyler Berginski, Jacob Hoy, Christian Lenzmeier and Nick Turner. Bryan Pallen, Gunnar Kollman and James Johannesson were selected from the Fargo-area hockey programs.

Players from West Fargo on the 16U team include Dexter Guidinger, Logan Matzke, Sage Raghib and Charlie Torrance. Chase Bischof, Gunnar Mogck, and Nick Schmit were selected from Fargo-area hockey programs.

The remainder of each roster is made up from players from around the state.

These players will participate in tournament weekends this fall before the start of youth and high school hockey programs. The fall tournament weekends allow the team to complete their USA Hockey sanctioned qualifying games required of national tournament teams.

The teams then will come back together in the spring in order to prepare for competition at the National Tournament.
