Wrestlers take second in Rochester tournament
The Packers traveled to Rochester, Minn., on Friday to face off with some of the best teams in the Midwest, and may have received a little national recognition in the process by ending the weekend in second place out of 33 teams with 179 points.
Only Apple Valley, Minn., -- the No. 4 team in the nation, according to InterMat Wrestling -- finished ahead of West Fargo.
The Packers beat Bismarck high, the top team in the state and No. 38 in the nation, by 40.5 points, and Kaukauna, Wis., (currently 41st in the nation) by 53 points.
Junior Jordan Shearer highlighted the Pack by finishing second in the 132-pound class, losing to Griffin Parriott of New Prague, Minn., by a 3-2 decision in the championship match.
106-pound Jared Franek and 160-pound Weston Dobler both finished third in their respective weight classes.
In the 170-pound third-place match, senior Kollin Kragnes lost in overtime to Anoka's Matt Njos 3-1.
The Packers will take part in the Rumble on the Red at the Fargodome this weekend.
