The Packers wrestling season does not begin until the end of the month, but the team has already earned a promising achievement, as they have been ranked 50th in the nation, according to InterMat Wrestling's "Fab 50" rankings.

The reigning state champions finished the 2011-2012 season with a record of 21-0 and had three individual state champions, all of whom are returning for this season.

The Packers are the only team in North Dakota in the "Fab 50."

InterMat Wrestling also ranked senior Preston Lehmann eighth in the nation in the 195-pound division.

Lehmann ended last season with a record of 49-1 - the best record in school history - and the state championship at the 182-pound level. He won the state title at the 171-pound level during the 2010-2011 season.

Lehmann is one of two North Dakotans - the other being Ryan Blees of Bismarck at 160 pounds - in the InterMat rankings.

The Packers have also been named the No. 25-ranked team in the nation, according to Wrestling Insider News (WIN) Magazine.

InterMat has also ranked former Packers wrestler Scott Schiller, who is now a sophomore at the University of Minnesota, 11th in the national college rankings at 197 pounds.
