Western State Bank recently contributed $2,500 to support the Humane Society Fargo-Moorhead.

The Humane Society Fargo-Moorhead is a shelter that provides a second chance to lost, abandoned, and owner surrendered animals. The organization has been serving the community since 1966. As a private non-profit organization, they depend on donations as needed funding.

Humane Society Fargo-Moorhead is one of several organizations to be selected to participate in the Giving Hearts Day on Feb. 14, in which Dakota Medical Foundation will match donations made to the organization.

In 2011, the West Fargo and Fargo locations of Western contributed nearly $51,000 in charitable donations, while employees volunteered around 1,400 hours of their time to 40 different area organizations in the West Fargo and Fargo communities.

Some of the organizations Western employees volunteered their time to include: The United Way of Cass-Clay, American Red Cross Minn-Kota Chapter, Lake Agassiz Habitat for Humanity, Meals on Wheels, Cass County Housing Authority, Fargo Moorhead West Fargo Chamber of Commerce, West Fargo Economic Advisory Committee, West Fargo Exchange Club, Horace Lions, West Fargo Baseball Association, West Fargo Lions, Fargo Marathon, West Fargo and Fargo Schools, a variety of Fargo and West Fargo civic organizations, and numerous churches.

"Each year, Western strives to better our community by giving back to numerous organizations. Our employees stand by our motto of being 'Your Hometown Bank' by volunteering their time and talents," Western State Bank president Brad Jacobson said.
