Vernette Engness

Vernette Engness, 75, West Fargo, died Wednesday, Aug. 25, 2010, in her home.

Vernette Joan Renner, was born in Richardton, N.D., on September 15, 1935, to Mike and Eleanor (Gress) Renner. She graduated from Mount St. Benedict, Crookston, Minn., and worked at Allis Chalmers in Fargo. On November 19, 1955, Vernette married DuWayne L. Engness in Fargo. Vernette and DuWayne worked and operated the first Mexican restaurant in North Dakota, the Taco Shop of Fargo and also Interstate Dragways and Engness Fabricators.

One of their great joys was traveling south, during the winter, in their motor home.

She is survived by her husband, DuWayne, West Fargo; two children, DuWayne “Sparky,” West Fargo and Marie Tuttle, Stockton, Calif.; three grandchildren, Austin Tuttle, Alesha Engness and Issak Engness; sisters, Alva Renner, Fargo, Joyce (Gordon) Nelson, Grand Forks, N.D., Shirley (Alvin) Bertsch, Hillsboro, N.D., Doreen (Lee) Payne, Argusville, N.D.; brothers, Michael (Diana) Renner, Moorhead, James (Diane) Renner, Felton, Minn.; aunt, Henrietta (Julian) Rheault, Dilworth, Minn., and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation and a Funeral Mass were held on Saturday, August 28, 2010 in Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, West Fargo. Burial was at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Fargo.
