William R. Montgomery

William R. Montgomery, 83, West Fargo, N.D., died Sunday, Nov. 27, 2011, in Sanford Health, Fargo, N.D., following a brief illness.

Bill was born June 19, 1928, in Fargo, the son of Dale and Evelyn (Scott) Montgomery. He was raised in Ayr, N.D., and graduated from Ayr High School. He started his career in the family business, Montgomery & Sons, a livestock commission firm. He entered the U.S. Army in 1951, during the Korean Conflict and served until 1953. Following military service, Bill returned to Absaraka, N.D. and the family business. He married Beverly Johnk April 3, 1954, in Page, N.D. They moved from Absaraka to West Fargo in 1957. After 60 years in the livestock business, he retired.

For many years, Bill was an active member of the El Zagal Shrine Patrol, Fargo.

Bill is survived by his wife, Beverly; sons, Brent (Boots) and Troy (LeAnn), both West Fargo; daughter-in-law, Cheryl Montgomery, West Fargo; sister, Donna (Wendell) Wischer, Highlands Ranch, Colo.; grandchildren, Adam, Austin, Amanda, Brianne, Reed and Ross Montgomery.

He was preceded in death by his son, Todd, and brother, Jack.

Visitation was held Tuesday, Nov.29, from 5 to 7 p.m. in West Funeral Chapel, West Fargo, with a prayer service at 7 p.m. and a Masonic service following. The Funeral will be Wednesday, Nov. 30, 2011, at 11 a.m. in Community Presbyterian Church, West Fargo. Burial will be in the Buffalo (ND) Cemetery.
