West Fargo library news (March 30, 2016)
Man Toys on Display: Through Thursday. The library’s current display is from local resident Neil Wenberg’s collectible war toys. Wenberg is loaning many of his 1930s-40s Manoil, Barclay, and Built-Rite items for the public to view. Having been manufactured during the Depression and World War II when there was a shortage of money and metal, they are made of cardboard and hollow lead slush.
Introduction to Pinterest: 6 p.m. Thursday. The class will explore the basics of Pinterest, including creating accounts, following friends, and adding pins. Patrons must have their email address and email password to create a Pinterest account. Laptops will be provided. Space is limited. Register at the service desk.
New Release Movie – “Spectre”: 2 p.m. Saturday. Join us for a showing of the newest James Bond adventure featuring Daniel Craig as the iconic MI6 spy. Rated PG-13. Free and open to the public. Free popcorn.
Pine Needle Basketry Class: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. The North Dakota Council on the Arts artist Eileen McEnroe is returning to West Fargo to teach a class in Pine Needle Basketry. Class size is limited so register in advance at the service desk. A $15 nonrefundable fee is due at time of registration.
Open Weave Pine Needle Session: 1-4 p.m. Sunday. This Pine Needle Open Weave Session is for previous students of pine needle artist Eileen McEnroe and anyone who would like to observe the technique. No charge. Class size is limited so register in advance at the service desk.
Friday Morning Movie: “Springtime for Max and Ruby.” 10:30 a.m. Friday. Join us for Max and Ruby’s springtime adventures. Follow along as Ruby tries to teach her little brother Max, who has his own ideas. Join in on their loving and fun sibling rivalry. (Rated E)
Simply Stories: 10:15 a.m. Tuesday. This session is geared for lap babies and preschoolers and is just stories – no crafts. For stories and simple make-and-take crafts, visit the library at 1:30 p.m. Tuesdays. Registration is not required.
Storytime with a Craft – Frogs: 1:30 p.m. Tuesday. Story times are geared for preschool through first-grade age children and their caretakers. Day cares are welcome, but for groups larger than five, please call ahead to (701) 433-5460. Registration is not required.
Twisted Stitchers (formerly Knitty Giddy Knitters): 6:30 p.m. Tuesday. Join this fun group for an evening of knitting or crochet. Come with your own supplies. Not for beginners, but tips will be given to knitters and crocheters needing help. No preregistration required.
Ham Radio: 7 p.m. Wednesday. Sessions are open to adults and accompanied children interested in learning more about ham radio.
Introduction to Zinio Magazines: 6 p.m. April 6. Join us as we explore the basics of Zinio Magazines, including creating accounts, checking out magazines, and downloading them to a device. Patrons must have an email address to create a Zinio account. Laptops will be provided. Space is limited. Please register at the service desk.
Makey Makey STEM Class: 10:30 a.m. April 9. Join us for Saturday morning science. Learn how everyday objects like Play-Doh or bananas can connect to computers with Makey Makeys. The library will be partnering with the Inspire Innovation Lab for this and more programs to come.www.inspireinnovationlab.org. Program is free and open to kids grades 3 and up. The Homework Center is open 3-5:30 p.m., Monday through Thursday when school is in session.
