Hoy Benefit set for Aug. 10 at Hagge's

The Hoy family will be in attendance at the benefit this Saturday.

Friends are for helping and that is what Rick Hoy is seeing upfront and personal as a special benefit event is planned to assist the Hoy family on Saturday, Aug. 10 from noon to 4 p.m. at Hagge's Bar and Grill in Mapleton.

Rick is currently battling stage IV melanoma and has undergone a regimen of treatments since May of 2011 that have included several surgeries, brain radiation and chemotherapy.

A 1981 West Fargo High School graduate, Rick is employed at Magnum of Fargo. Proceeds from the event will assist with accumulating medical expenses.

The benefit will feature a Taco Lunch, Silent Auction, Bake Sale, and raffles, as well as musical entertainment including karaoke. A freewill offering will be taken for the meal.

There will be a wide variety of auction items up for bids including a passel of dining, food-related and service gift certificates. Among the more high-profile items will be a gift certificate to Arbuckle Lodge for a one night stay in a whirlpool suite, a Green Bay Packers Super Bowl picture, Fargo Force tickets, three and six month gym memberships, a depth locator, ice fishing package with two nights lodging and two days guided ice, a Sunday night stay at the Hotel Donaldson, PS3 PlayStation and 26 inch HCD Magnavox TV, Chanhassen Dinner and Show, an access roll up pickup cover, Vikings Jerseys, NDSU Jerseys and Banner, an astro start, a complete car detailing, and golf packages, just to name a few.

Rick and his wife, Cindy, and children, Samantha, Allison and Garrett, all plan on being there welcoming and visiting with guests. They will be joined by several other family members and friends including Rick's siblings, Terry, Shelly and Bonnie, and their families, as well as other relatives from the Fargo-Moorhead, Detroit Lakes and Lisbon area.

Those unable to attend the benefit but who would still like to donate can do so online at:, click 'Donate'; or by sending a cash or check donation made payable to the Rick Hoy Benefit Fund: Bell State Bank & Trust, 3100 13th Ave.S., Fargo, N.D. 58103 or by dropping it by any Bell State Bank & Trust location.

Lend A Hand, a program of DMF, will be providing up to $5,000 in matching funds; and Thrivent Financial is also matching up to $1,000.

The Hoy family said they are extremely appreciative of all the support they have received to this point and are looking forward to visiting with everyone at the benefit. They are quick to point out that it is the support and prayers of family, the congregation at Bethel Church and a host of friends in the community that have given them the strength to walk through this difficult time.

Rick's sister, Bonnie Hoy-Thompson, said "the generosity of family, friends and the community has been very humbling and amazing. Whether it is spending time, helping with the benefit, or donating an item, we want to say "thank you." The caring and compassion has touched this whole family so much more than words can say! We encourage everyone who is able, to come on out to the benefit and enjoy all the event has to offer in support Rick's fight against cancer."
