Patriot Tour making stop at WF Harley-Davidson: Raising funds for wounded veterans

The 2013 Nation of Patriots Motorcycle Tour will be back in West Fargo at the Fargo Harley-Davidson store, 600 W. Main Ave., on Friday, Aug. 23 from noon to 1:30 p.m. Registration will be held and food served with a suggested $10 donation.

This is the fourth year for the annual tour which sees motorcycle riders escort the American flag through 48 states in 107 days in effort to raise money for families of wounded veterans. Harley dealerships are the connecting points along the tour, with Harley Owners Group chapters raising funds that are distributed to families of wounded veterans throughout the country.

The ride started out May 25 at the Wisconsin Harley Davidson in Occonomowoc and is scheduled to end up Aug. 31 at Still Horse Motor Sports in Beaver Dam, Wis.

The group of riders carrying the flag from Glacial Lakes Harley Davidson in Watertown, S.D. will arrive in Fargo on Thursday about 12:15 p.m. at the Fargo Harley-Davidson to present the flag to Frank Hebert, West Fargo resident and H.O.G. Chapter member who has been active in the ride.

The West Fargo ceremony on Friday will feature the West Fargo VFW Color Guard as part of the flag presentation. Everyone is invited to take in the event and all veterans or anyone else wishing is welcome to ride the next leg of the tour to Apol's Harley Davidson in or further, if they would like.

Hebert and John Williams will be leading the ride as road captains escorting the American flag.

Members of the West Fargo VFW Color Guard members are participating in the ride and Hebert encourages "all other patriotic people" to also be a part of it. "It is an open ride for all makes and models of motorcycles. It looks like the weather is going to be beautiful so it should be a great day for a ride."

The Nation of Patriots organized and launched this national effort in 2009 in Wisconsin as a tribute to all of America's Armed Forces — past, present and fallen, to show America's support, thanks, and united pride by assisting the families of wounded veterans.

The great symbol behind the process is carrying one U.S. Flag across the country, in doing so, representing all that the brave men and women in the military have stood for and died for defending the country, as well as continuing to protect the nation's freedom.
