Book tells tale of courage in leaving Hutterite roots

One by one a few young people were determined to leave their Hutterite colonies. The news rapidly spread throughout the colonies and others gathered the courage to leave their lifelong surroundings, family, and friends. Now there were nine who faced the unknown. Together they persevered through their strong faith and belief in Jesus Christ.

Consequently, each wrote a true personal account of their lives, in the book “Hutterites” – Our Story To Freedom – by The Nine.”

“Without leaving none of us would be able to preach the kingdom of God, teaching those things which concern the Lord Jesus Christ, with all confidence, no man forbidding us, like it says in Acts 28:31,” said Rodney Waldner. “My parents were excommunicated for their faith in Jesus Christ and we realized we were not free to follow and serve Jesus in the colony.”

With a big smile Sheryl Waldner piped in. “When we were leaving we didn’t realize how different our life would be. It never even occurred to me that I would need a driver’s license and some form of income. But we knew God was opening the door now. We were miserable enough to do whatever it takes to find freedom beyond the walls of the Hutterite colony; the Lord was drawing our hearts to the truth in Jesus Christ and His Word.”

These nine individuals received much needed help from “English” believers in Jesus Christ who were obedient to God’s call to help them thrive in the outside world. Now, the nine successfully operate their own businesses in the U.S. and Canada. With contagious joy they share how they have been vacationing throughout the U.S. and are actively pursuing activities such as waterskiing and music.
