GRAND FORKS—The people of Grand Forks will decide the fate of a popular park.

The Grand Forks City Council recently decided to let voters decide whether to give the downtown green space known as Arbor Park to the city's parks department or to turn it over to developers to create apartments and retail spaces.

Some people were hoping the city would combine this vote with a proposed vote over a sales tax increase, but council members say they weren't willing to wait.

"I think the rest of us were hesitant to put off this vote any longer, to tie it to another one when we don't really have that set right now," said Jeannie Mock, City Council member.

Voters will head to the polls on June 20.
