Vandals strike motor vehicles

The West Fargo Police Department is investigating a string of vandalisms to motor vehicles in an area east of the Sheyenne River to 20th St. E. and north of Seventh Avenue.

Seven reports of pellet gun damage to vehicles parked on or near the street led to this investigation. In each of the vehicles, one or more windows were broken overnight Dec. 27, with damage estimation ranging from $250 to $1,000 per car.

Police Captain Mike Reitan said there had been nine reports by Thursday afternoon, with more anticipated, but no leads on who did it. The earliest report came to the Police Department at 4:20 a.m.

"We're hoping somebody heard or saw something," he said. "In the past, we've been pretty lucky. Somebody had seen something or reported something."

Reitan said this type of vandalism "seems to be a reoccurring pattern every six to nine months," adding that typically the suspects are late teens or young adults.

Anyone with information is urged to call the West Fargo Police Department at 433-5500.
